5 Budget Saving Tips

Sometimes we’re so stressed just making it through the day, we can hardly plan dinner. So planning a weekend away or an annual holiday is a big ask.

The thing is, scheduling and planning are said to help stop the stress before it even starts. So whether it’s taking 10 minutes to plan your day or a couple of hours to plan your much-needed holiday, a plan is the place to start.

Not surprisingly, our number one stress and budget-saving travel tip is:

  1. Plan. Plan. Plan - Start by being clear about where you want to travel and for how long. That will help you work out your travel budget. Book flights and hotels ahead for cheaper prices (last-minute flights and accommodation are often far more expensive).
  2. A Reason for Off-Season – Christmas and New Year are peak seasons in most parts of the world, which means prices peak too. Prices also seem to hot up in summer. So, we suggest you keep a cool head when planning a trip. Cheaper transport. Cheaper accommodation. Cheaper attractions. Better service. Better sight-seeing (not blocked by the crowds). Better selfies (more space for selfie stick).

  • Eat, Sleep and be Thrifty - Instead of a hotel, consider a home away from home – self-catering accommodation of sorts. And, instead of eating out, prepare your own meals.

Shopping at local grocery stores or markets is an adventure in and of itself. And prepping your meals not only saves you money but spices up your cooking repertoire.

  • Take Local Transport or Walk – An interesting and economical way to get a feel of a new city is to share a bus or train ride with the locals. Not only do you see the sights, but you get to hear the language and get a sense of the everyday lives of the people.

Of course, an even cheaper option is to walk. It literally grounds you in your new surroundings and makes you feel like you belong. Walking is a great way to stumble upon lesser-known attractions and gives you endless opportunities to interact with other travellers or locals.  Oh, and walking not only reduces your daily spend but reduces anxiety and stress too!

  • Pack Light - From avoiding that extra baggage fee to being able to hop onto public transport, traveling light is a stress and money saver, of note.
